What do I Spy here?

Over the last few months I have been puttering away on a few quilting projects. Now normally if I can't wear it, I don't sew it. But decided to make an exception this time!!

The idea behind the I Spy quilts is that you can use them to play the I Spy game.

The finished quilt

I had taken part in a Quilt Swap in order to get more fabric for some I Spy Quilting. I have made a cot size quilt and two sets  place mats as gifts for my cousins' children. I will be going on holiday to England at the beginning of August and will be seeing them all there.

Cutting the large squares into smaller squares

The quilt has 70 squares, each featuring something that a child can recognize. I made it as a Disappearing 9 Patch Quilt and am thrilled how it has turned out.

Owl Sweater

I am knitting an Owl Sweater.

Or, "nice hooters" as someone commented on my pin on Pinterest!

I was on the Google  a couple of months ago (a friend of mine's elderly parents refer to it as "the Google" - I like that!!) and I found the Owl Sweater. It is knitted in a similar fashion to the Cadence sweater I knitted back in October / November last year. That is it is knitted on a a circular needle. Whereas the cadence sweater was knitted top down, this one however is knitted bottom up.

I feel weird knitting in summer for a fall /winter item, but I want it finished in time to wear in the right season. Especially as it has been so hot here at the moment.

I have chosen a maroon color. Actually I initially bought red, but when I got it home realized that it was too close to the orange I had used for the Cadence. So I returned it the next day for the maroon.

So hopefully this will be ready for Fall!!

Hazel Dress

Happy Canada Day!

Actually I am in the middle of other sewing (Cambrie dress, baby quilt and laptop bag), but I suddenly decided that I needed a red and white dress for a Canada Day BBQ.

So on Thursday lunchtime I went off to my local Fabricland and found some red and white striped fabric. They say copying is the sincerest form of flattery and I wanted a dress like the picture on the pattern!

When I got home, I downloaded the  digital Hazel pattern from the Colette patterns website while I washed and dried the fabric. I have been following the Colette Pattern Sew Along on Sarah's Rhinestones and Telephones blog, and although I fell way behind in the previous Sew Along, I am on schedule with this one!!!
